Greenwich CT Holiday Events 2026: The Dates That Are Already Confirmed

Most guides to Greenwich CT holiday events 2026 will go up in early December, which is about three weeks after the good workshops sell out. So here's the early version, built from what the venues themselves have published as of October 20, 2026.
Some of it is locked in. Some of it isn't announced yet, including the one date everyone asks about, and we'll be straight with you about which is which.
One note on how to read this: the events worth planning around in this town are spread across Cos Cob, Old Greenwich, the backcountry, and the Avenue. Treat December in Greenwich as five short drives rather than one big outing.
What Greenwich holiday dates are already confirmed?
These are the ones published by the organizers themselves, with dates you can plan around today:
- Thursday, November 5:Sip and Shop Greenwich 2026, noon to 9 p.m., Innis Arden Golf Club, 120 Tomac Avenue, Old Greenwich. Free admission.
- Wednesday, November 11: Native Wildflower Seed Sowing Workshop, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Greenwich Land Trust, 370 Round Hill Road.
- Thursday, November 12: "The Roots and Legacy of the Bill of Rights" with Dr. Stacey Close, Greenwich Historical Society, Cos Cob.
- Saturday, November 21: Curator tour of Fashioning America: 250 Years of Greenwich Style with Senior Curator Kathy Craughwell-Varda, Greenwich Historical Society.
- Wednesday, November 25: Harvest in Bloom Thanksgiving Centerpiece Workshop, Greenwich Botanical Center, 130 Bible Street, Cos Cob.
- Monday, November 30: Wreath Decorating Workshop, Greenwich Botanical Center.
- December 1 through 10: Private wreath decorating parties, Greenwich Botanical Center, by arrangement.
- Saturday, December 5: Family Wreath Decorating Workshop, Greenwich Botanical Center, and a second curator tour of Fashioning America at the Historical Society.
- Sunday, December 6: "The Christmas Owl" book signing and native owl meet and greet, Greenwich Botanical Center.
- Wednesday, December 23: Winter White Wonderland Holiday Centerpiece Workshop, Greenwich Botanical Center.
The Botanical Center's calendar lists dates without start times for most programs, so call 203-869-9242 before you build a day around one.
Where can you do holiday shopping in Greenwich without driving to a mall?
Start with Sip and Shop Greenwich 2026 on Thursday, November 5, from noon to 9 p.m. at Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich. Admission is free and the event is open to the public, with a cash bar and free parking.
The vendor list runs to local and independent small businesses selling clothing, accessories, home decor, skincare, gifts, and jewelry, which is a reasonable first pass at a gift list in one afternoon. You can also bring unwanted gold or sterling jewelry, watches, flatware, or hollowware to sell for cash on the spot.
Net proceeds go to Swim Across America Fairfield County, which supports the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy. The organizers, Nancy Carr and Roseann Benedict, ask guests not to wear denim.
After that, the Avenue. Greenwich Avenue is the shopping district people picture when they picture this town, and the stretch from the railroad bridge up to Putnam is walkable in both directions in an hour.
What holiday workshops can you actually sign up for?
The Greenwich Botanical Center at 130 Bible Street in Cos Cob is running the densest November and December program in town, and most of it is hands-on rather than lecture format.
The seasonal run looks like this:
- November 3: Garlands for Grateful Gatherings, a family floral workshop.
- November 3: Preparing Dahlia Beds for Winter, with the Greenwich Dahlia Society.
- November 4: Bulb Lasagna container workshop with Sandy Lindh of English Gardens and Designs.
- November 5: An author talk with Zoë Schlanger, who wrote The Light Eaters.
- November 6: The Great Pumpkin Rescue, building a worm compost habitat, with Waste Free Greenwich.
- November 7: Dividing Peonies and Fall Perennial Care with Emily Hammond of Amsonia Design.
- November 11 and 12: A walk-up paperwhites and amaryllis bulb bar.
- November 25, November 30, December 5, December 8, and December 23: The Thanksgiving centerpiece, wreath decorating, family wreath decorating, Deck the Halls winter container, and holiday centerpiece workshops.
One standing item worth knowing about year round: the Plant Doctor Houseplant Drop-In Clinic runs the first Thursday of each month, walk-ins welcome, no registration. That's November 5 and December 3.
The Election Day of Play program on November 3 was already marked sold out when we checked, which is the general lesson about this calendar.
What's worth doing indoors once it's dark at 4:30?
Fashioning America: 250 Years of Greenwich Style at the Greenwich Historical Society, on view until January 10, 2027. Two hundred and fifty years of how this town dressed is a better winter exhibition than that description makes it sound, and the campus is at 47 Strickland Road in Cos Cob.
The two curator tours with Senior Curator Kathy Craughwell-Varda are November 21 and December 5. If you've been to the exhibition already, a curator tour is a different experience and worth the second trip. The Historical Society is also running a Bill of Rights lecture with Dr. Stacey Close on November 12.
Perrot Memorial Library at 90 Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich is the other reliable indoor stop, and it's open seven days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Standing programs include Perrot Walks on Tuesday mornings at 10 and an open knitting group Tuesday afternoons.
The Bruce Museum has published its current exhibition schedule, including Rohini Devasher: Solar Poetics through November 29, 2026. Check its exhibitions page before your visit.
When do the Greenwich Avenue holiday lights go on?
Not announced yet for 2026 as of October 20, and we'd rather say that than make up a date.
Here's what we can tell you about how it works. The displays are privately funded by local businesses and residents and organized by Greenwich Community Foundation, a nonprofit, rather than by the town. In past years the lights have gone up along Greenwich Avenue, along East Putnam Avenue from Church Street, and in Cos Cob, with the switch thrown on Thanksgiving night and the displays staying up through the end of January.
Greenwich Free Press has covered the installation each autumn and is the most reliable place to see this year's date when it's set. The foundation posts at its 2026 holiday lights page.
The organizer currently says around Thanksgiving weekend, weather permitting; an exact switch-on date and lighting ceremony are not confirmed. Check the foundation's 2026 page before planning around it.
Where do you go when you need to be outside in December?
The Greenwich Audubon Center at 613 Riversville Road, which is the answer most people here forget they have. Its trails are open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset, across seven sanctuaries totaling 686 acres. The building itself is open Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed Monday through Wednesday.
For something with a date on it, the Greenwich Land Trust's Native Wildflower Seed Sowing Workshop is Wednesday, November 11, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 370 Round Hill Road. You'll sow seeds collected from Land Trust properties and learn how winter stratification actually germinates a native seed. There's no sign-up link posted, so call 203-629-2151 or email [email protected].
Both of those are backcountry, which is worth saying for anyone who only knows Greenwich from the train. Ten minutes north of the Avenue the town turns into stone walls and hardwood.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the best weekend in Greenwich for a family with young kids?
The first weekend of December is the strongest on this year's calendar. The Family Wreath Decorating Workshop at the Greenwich Botanical Center is Saturday, December 5, and "The Christmas Owl" book signing and native owl meet and greet is Sunday, December 6.
Do I need to register for the Greenwich Botanical Center workshops?
For most of them, yes, and some fill early. The Election Day of Play program on November 3 was already sold out when we checked on October 20. The exception is the Plant Doctor Houseplant Drop-In Clinic on the first Thursday of each month, which takes walk-ins with no registration. The center's number is 203-869-9242.
Which Greenwich neighborhood has the most going on in December?
Cos Cob, on the strength of two institutions a few minutes apart: the Greenwich Historical Society at 47 Strickland Road and the Greenwich Botanical Center at 130 Bible Street. Old Greenwich takes the single biggest evening with Sip and Shop at Innis Arden on November 5, and the backcountry has the Audubon trails.
Can you visit Greenwich's parks and trails in winter?
Yes. Greenwich Audubon Center's trails are open sunrise to sunset every day of the year across 686 acres. Rules for town beaches and parks vary by season and by residency, so check the Town of Greenwich site for current access rules before you go rather than assuming last summer's rules still apply.
New to town, or thinking about it?
If you're moving to Greenwich this winter, or weighing whether to, the calendar above is a reasonable way to find out what the town is actually like in the months nobody photographs. A Tuesday in Cos Cob in December tells you more than a Saturday in June.
The Metalios Team at Houlihan Lawrence has lived and worked here for a long time, and we're happy to answer the questions that don't show up in a listing: which neighborhoods feel lively in February, how the commute really runs from Old Greenwich versus Riverside, where the good coffee is on a Sunday in Cos Cob. No pitch, no obligation. Just ask.
